What Are The Main Types Of Appearance Defects In Abrasive Belts?

Feb 03, 2026

The main types of surface defects in abrasive belts are as follows:

1) Sand clump: Refers to a portion of the abrasive belt where the abrasive surface is higher than other parts.

2) Missing abrasive: Refers to a part of the product where there is no abrasive material.

3) Glue stain: Refers to a localized area on the abrasive surface where the abrasive grains are covered by glue.

4) Fold mark: Refers to a mark caused by the abrasive surface or the backing material being completely folded over itself.

5) Excessive glue coating: Refers to the situation where the gaps between the abrasive grains on the abrasive surface are filled with glue, resulting in a certain degree of partial or complete glossiness on the abrasive surface, which should not be present.

6) Backside glue edge: Refers to the phenomenon of accidental glue application on the back of the substrate.

7) Rupture: Refers to cracks or localized holes in the product's edges.

8) Adhesive Penetration: Refers to adhesive marks on the back of the product caused by the adhesive penetrating the substrate.

9) Curling: Refers to unevenness on the product's working surface caused by deformation of the substrate.

10) Delamination: Refers to separation between layers of cardboard or between the cardboard and the adhesive.

11) Undissolved Wood Pulp Residue: Refers to the presence of undissolved wood pulp residue on the paper base.

12) Joint Defects: Defects in the joint area of coated abrasives such as abrasive belts and sleeves, including joint rupture, weak or loose bonding, unevenness, and protruding adhesive layers.

13) Incomplete Labeling: Refers to abrasive belts lacking complete labeling information such as product name, abrasive material and grit size, registered trademark, and manufacturer's name.

The impact of visual defects on the quality of abrasive belts varies depending on the type and shape of the belt. Different types of abrasive belts have different standards and requirements regarding visual defects. Visual defects are usually inspected visually with the naked eye.
