Storage conditions are one of the most important factors affecting the performance of coated abrasive products. Only proper storage can maintain good grinding efficiency.
The substrate and some adhesives during the manufacturing process are sensitive to climate and will become dry or damp depending on the relative humidity of their environment.
Coated abrasives have the best performance when stored and used within the recommended temperature and humidity range. They have the best performance at 60 degrees to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and 40%-50% relative humidity.
When storing, make sure all coated abrasives are not in direct contact with concrete floors, away from moisture, hot pipes and heat sources.

Impact of abnormal storage:
Excessive humidity: It will cause the binder or resin to soften, and also the filler material in the matrix to soften. In this way, during the grinding process, the abrasive will press against the matrix instead of the workpiece being ground, reducing the grinding efficiency. Frictional heat will make the binder softer. The life of coated abrasives will be reduced by 50% if they are stored in a relatively high humidity environment for a long time.
Overdrying: It will reduce the flexibility of the product and cause difficulties in use. Narrow abrasive belts will curl or twist and become cupped (bent toward the back) when overdried. Paper products, especially heavy paper products, will lose flexibility and become brittle if stored in an overdry environment for a long time. Water-resistant sandpaper will also be affected by this.
For cloth-based abrasive belts and discs, if the moisture contained in the base is too high, they will bend to the back and become unsuitable for use. Adhesive and resin-bonded abrasive belts will also bend to the back if they are too wet. If they are too dry, they will bend in the opposite direction.
Notes:
In addition to ensuring the temperature conditions for your coated abrasives, you should also pay attention to the following important tips to extend the life of your unused coated abrasives:
Coated abrasives should be stored in sealed cartons before use.
Bulk rolls should be stored flat and not stacked. Cartons, boxes and packaged rolls should be kept intact during use. Abrasive belts should be hung on special racks.
Proper racking for your coated abrasives can help you manage your warehouse.
