When buying sandpaper, you may see abrasive cloth rolls. It looks similar to sandpaper and is also used for grinding. However, there are some differences between the two grinding tools, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Different substrates
Sandpaper is to bond abrasives to paper substrates with adhesives, such as kraft paper, latex paper, water-resistant paper, etc.; emery cloth rolls are to bond abrasives to cloth substrates.
2. The scope of application is different
Abrasive cloth rolls are mainly used for rough processing of metal and wood, and are mainly processed into abrasive belts for use with belt machines; sandpaper is mainly used for medium grinding and fine polishing of metal, wood, paint, and composite materials. It is suitable for various forms such as adhesive disc sand and sandpaper belt.
3. Different granularity
In comparison, the abrasive grain size of sandpaper is finer, and the grinding effect is more delicate; the abrasive grain size of emery cloth roll is relatively coarse, and the grinding effect is relatively rough, but the grinding speed is fast and the efficiency is high, but the grinding accuracy is relatively not so high.

4. Different prices
For products of the same specifications and models, the price of ordinary sandpaper is usually cheaper than that of emery cloth, but the price of high-end sandpaper is much more expensive than that of emery cloth rolls. And generally when buying in hardware stores, sandpaper is more common, and abrasive cloth rolls are relatively less.
In fact, abrasive cloth rolls and sandpaper each have their own advantages:
1. The advantages of abrasive cloth rolls are that they are durable, not easy to drop sand, and can be folded and folded without breaking; the disadvantages are that they are relatively expensive, not easy to buy, and the particle size is relatively large.
2. The advantage of sandpaper is that the price is relatively cheap, there are more types and models, and it can be polished more finely; the disadvantage is that it is not as durable as emery cloth, and it is easy to lose sand.
Both abrasive cloth rolls and sandpaper have their own advantages and disadvantages. We can choose according to the material of the workpiece and the grinding requirements. Generally, it is recommended to use abrasive cloth rolls for rough grinding and sandpaper for fine grinding.
