Development History Of Heavy Duty Grinding Wheel Grinding

Mar 16, 2023

From 1900 to 1925, manual shaking frame grinding machines were used, rubber or vitrified grinding wheels with a diameter of 400mm were used, the maximum grinding power was 5 horsepower, and the linear speed of the grinding wheel was 40m/s.

From 1925 to 1945, the shaking frame grinding machine with gravity as the auxiliary force was developed, and the resinoid grinding wheel (1924) and the grinding wheel (1937) manufactured by hot pressing technology were used. The diameter of the grinding wheel was 500mm, and the grinding power was increased to 15. Horsepower, the grinding wheel linear speed is 45 m/s.

From 1945 to 1960, sintered fused alumina was used and a mechanical grinder was applied. The grinding power reached 75 horsepower, the pressure of the grinding head was 5000N, and the linear speed of the grinding wheel reached 63 m/s.

From 1960 to 1970, zirconium fused alumina was used, the diameter of the grinding wheel reached 610mm, and the grinding machine with a power of 150 horsepower was used, the pressure of the grinding head increased to 10000N, and the linear speed of the grinding wheel reached 83m/s.

From 1970 to 1980, the diameter of the grinding wheel reached 915mm, and a specially designed grinding machine was used for different billet shapes. The power reached 650 horsepower, and the pressure of the grinding head increased to 30,000N.

From 1980 to 2014, grinding technology developed rapidly. Cold grinding can be performed manually, semi-automatically and fully automatically, and hot grinding machine tools and hot grinding wheels have appeared, which can grind high-temperature steel billets at 900 °C. The level of automation and control of machine tools has been continuously improved, and IT technology has been integrated, and the performance of grinding machines has been further optimized and improved.
