The grinding process divides into rough grinding, accurate grinding, and polishing. The linear speed is 60m/s. The grinding wheel has the characters of high strength, uniform structure and hardness, good self-sharpening, high efficiency, etc. The rolls grinded by the wheels have the characters of high precision and without chatter marks.

Roll grinding wheels are mainly used for the grinding of steel plates in the steel industry, work rolls and back-up rolls of plate hot and cold rolling mills. Resin grinding wheels are more popular in the fields consider it's high strength, high grinding efficiency, high grinding precision, and long life.

Roll grinding wheels are widely used in steel mill for grinding all kinds of hot-roll steel sheets, cold-roll steel sheets, steel plate and strip, stainless steel plate and strip, nonferrous plate and strip, work roll and back-up roll of aluminum foil or others metal foil production line, and metal rolls used in papermaking industry.

When the workpiece (roller) speed is coarsely ground, 30~50m/min, 15~30m/min during precision grinding, 10~15m/min during precision polishing. When grinding slender rollers, low speed should be used, especially the grinding roller. When the calender roll has a small body size, the speed of the workpiece roll is less than 10 m/min.

The longitudinal feed rate of the carriage is 240~600m/min when rough grinding; or the longitudinal feed of the carriage per workpiece is about 2/3~3/4 of the width of the grinding wheel. 80~200m/min during fine grinding; or the longitudinal feed of the workpiece per revolution of the workpiece is about 1/4~1/2 of the width of the grinding wheel.

When the reciprocating stroke of the carriage is transversely fed, the transverse feed amount should be determined according to the hardness of the roller and the diameter of the grinding roller surface, generally taking a reciprocating stroke of 0.03~0.05mm. For rolls with a hard material and a large roll neck, the cross feed should be reduced. 0.005~0.01mm reciprocating stroke during fine grinding. 0.002~0.005mm reciprocating stroke for precision polishing.
