Description
Brown aluminum oxide is made from bauxite, coke (anthracite) as the main raw material, which is then smelted at high temperature in an electric furnace. The grinding tools made of it are suitable for grinding metals with high-tensile strength, such as all kinds of common steel, malleable cast iron, hard bronze, etc., as well as high-class refractory materials. Brown aluminum oxide has the characteristics of high purity, good crystallization, strong fluidity, lower linear expansion coefficient and corrosion resistance. What do F, P, and W stand for in the specifications of brown aluminum oxide?
F sand
This type of product is ordinary brown aluminum oxide abrasive products, the main particle size ranges from 4 mesh to 240 mesh, the main use is various castings, workpiece grinding, polishing, etc., and can be applied to the production of various grinding wheels.

P sand
Compared with F sand, its quality is better. It needs to go through multiple processing steps such as pickling, water washing, and air separation. Its particle size is generally from 8 mesh to 220 mesh. It is more used in the grinding process of high-precision workpieces.

W sand
It belongs to the brown aluminum oxide powder series, with a range of W1-W63. The particle size is very fine and is basically used for polishing and grinding of ceramic products, precision workpieces, and glass products.

Brown aluminum oxide P sand, F sand, and W sand all belong to the range of brown fused alumina granularity sand, because they all have fixed granularity numbers, also called numbered sand. Brown fused alumina segment sand is different, for example, the commonly used 1-3mm, 3-5mm, 325-0, etc. all belong to segment sand, because the granularity of this type of brown fused alumina is between two values, and is mostly used in the production of refractory materials.

For coated abrasives

Due to its high hardness, good chemical stability, high toughness, sharpness and strong grinding force, it is mainly used as raw material to produce coated abrasive products such as sandpaper, sand belt, and sand cloth.

For bonded abrasives
The particle size of F sand can also be customized according to customer needs. It is produced according to standards and a complete testing system ensures that unqualified brown fused alumina products will not leave the factory. It is widely used in bonded abrasive products such as resin abrasives, ceramic abrasives, rubber abrasives, and grinding stone grinding heads due to its uniform particles, no dust, high temperature resistance, high grinding efficiency, and relatively high strength.
Brown aluminum oxide W sand
Polishing
Brown fused alumina W powder has small particle size and is processed by pickling and water washing. The product is not only tough, high temperature resistant, uniform in particle size, high grinding efficiency, good chemical stability, but also has high purity, few impurities, anti-oxidation, corrosion resistance, good physical stability, and other characteristics that are superior to P sand and F sand. It is often used in the production of abrasive materials, sandblasting polishing, and polishing wax.
Six treatment methods of brown aluminum oxide

Calcination treatment
The calcination of brown aluminum oxide produces some liquid substances that can fill the small cracks produced during the lattice crushing process. Calcination can also burn off the dust and grease on the brown fused alumina. The operation process is to calcine the brown aluminum oxide in a rotary kiln or a vertical furnace, which can enhance its toughness and hardness.

Alkaline solution corrosion treatment
Brown aluminum oxide is placed in a sodium hydroxide solution, then heated, cooled, washed and dried. This method allows sodium hydroxide and aluminum oxide to react, which can improve the bonding strength of brown fused alumina.

Ceramic liquid silane composite treatment
The brown aluminum oxide is made by adding the prepared ceramic slurry to it, drying it and then firing it. It gives the surface of the brown fused alumina an extra layer of porous ceramic, making it heat-resistant and acid-resistant.

Brown aluminum oxide treated with silane
Silane is generally used as a flowing liquid with a medium molecular weight. Silicone oil and silicone grease with a large molecular weight are not suitable as a tackifier. The advantage is that silane can form a transition layer between brown fused alumina and resin binder to increase the bonding strength between the two.

Brown aluminum oxide coated with resin liquid
Apply a layer of prepared resin liquid on the surface of brown fused alumina and then solidify it. Having an extra layer of resin on the surface can improve the bonding effect between brown aluminum oxide and the binder and the heat and acid and alkali resistance of the abrasive, thereby extending the service life of brown fused alumina.

Brown aluminum oxide coated with metal salt
