Features of waterproof sandpaper
1. The polishing quality is higher than ordinary dry sandpaper. When sanding with water, the sandpaper surface is less prone to clogging, and the sandpaper life is longer.
2. Waterproof abrasive paper has a wide grit distribution, ranging from P60 to P5000, while the finest grit of ordinary dry sandpaper is around P1000. Waterproof sandpaper is particularly suitable for fine-grained, high-precision polishing.
3. Fine-grit waterproof abrasive paper offers better value for money compared to other precision abrasive materials. It is relatively inexpensive and can be used for both dry and wet sanding.
Why do waterproof sandpaper need to be wet?
This depends on the adhesive used. Waterproof abrasive paper uses paint or resin as its adhesive, while dry sandpaper uses animal glue.
Wet sandpaper has smaller gaps between its abrasive grains, producing smaller abrasive particles. When used with water, these particles are washed away, so it must be used with water. If waterproof sandpaper is used dry, the particles will remain in the gaps between the abrasive grains, making the sandpaper surface shiny and failing to achieve its intended effect.
Generally, waterproof abrasive paper is needed for sanding above 800 grit.
Dry sandpaper is less troublesome. Its abrasive grains have larger gaps, producing larger abrasive particles. During sanding, the larger gaps cause the particles to fall off, so it doesn't need to be used with water. However, the finest dry sandpaper is generally around P1000.
The function and usage of waterproof sandpaper
1. Sandpaper is very useful for model making. It can remove sprue marks from parts, smooth out cut-out notches in runners, and use fine-grit sandpaper to remove oxide layers, revealing the original metallic luster. Applying oil to sandpaper produces a softer shine.
2. Waterproof abrasive paper is like an industrial beautician. Sandpaper is indispensable in our daily lives-computers, teacups, leather shoes, etc. It is through the use of tools that we have a colorful world. Wood, leather, and metal cannot be directly used as commodities; they are cut, processed, deformed, and ground before they can be used. Polishing is a crucial step in achieving a perfect finish. Therefore, carefully choosing suitable waterproof sandpaper is essential for achieving a flawless surface.
3. For grinding rough surfaces, such as mahogany furniture, paint, and wall surfaces, where the surface structure is coarse and the particles are large, dry sandpaper is suitable. Dry sandpaper is coarser and harder than waterproof abrasive paper, creating a matching surface particle pattern, resulting in high grinding efficiency and a smooth finish in the shortest time. Grinding PVC circuit boards, mobile phone casings, precision instruments, etc. The grinding particles are small and the precision is high. It is especially suitable for precision machining and manual grinding. It is suitable for relatively thin paper bases and fine grit. It can be wetted for grinding. Dry sandpaper cannot be wetted because it has a layer of grit and glue.
