Why Are Brown Aluminum Flap Disc Widely Used?

Jan 22, 2025

The flap disc (louver blade) is a simplified product of the flap wheel, which is made of plastic or fiber mesh cover bonded with sandpaper blades. It is a kind of industrial consumables and is mainly used for grinding and polishing in industrial production.

There are many raw materials for making flap discs (louver blades), such as zirconium fused alumina, nylon sanding belt, silicon carbide, brown aluminum oxide, calcined corundum, etc., but brown aluminum oxide is still the most commonly used material. So, why is brown aluminum oxide flap disc widely used?

Brown aluminum oxide, also known as corundum, is made of bauxite and coke (anthracite) as the main raw materials and is smelted at high temperature in an electric arc furnace. The abrasives made of it are suitable for grinding metals with high tensile strength, such as various general steels, malleable cast iron, hard bronze, etc., and can also be used to manufacture high-grade refractory materials.

Brown aluminum oxide has the characteristics of high purity, good crystallization, strong fluidity, low linear expansion coefficient, and corrosion resistance. Practice has proven that this product does not explode, pulverize, or crack during use. In particular, its cost-effectiveness is much higher than other traditional abrasives, making it an excellent choice for the raw material of flap discs.

Through analysis, it is not difficult to find that brown aluminum oxide is indeed a very good material for making flap discs, and everyone can choose it with confidence!
