What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Super Thin Cutting Wheels?

Jan 26, 2025

Super thin cutting wheels refer to cutting discs with thinner teeth than conventional cutting wheels. The thickness of the full sawtooth width should be determined in combination with the outer diameter of the cutting disc. Moreover, with the improvement of cutting disc technology, the evaluation of super thin cutting wheels will also change! For example, 10 or 20 years ago, cutting discs that were considered ultra-thin due to the constraints of cutting disc technology at that time may not be considered super thin cutting wheels now!

From the perspective of the reaction of the entire cutting wheel market, more and more users want to use super thin cutting wheels, because the benefits (or advantages) of using thin saw blades are obvious.

Advantages of super thin cutting wheels:
1. Reduce the waste of raw materials: Super thin cutting wheels are generally used to cut precious raw materials, or to cut thin-sheet workpieces, because the loss of raw materials during cutting saw paths is a real waste. The whimsical cutting is zero loss but it is unrealistic! Using ultra-thin saw discs can increase the output rate.

2. Improve cutting quality: The thinner the saw disc, the less cutting resistance it has. When the cutting equipment has good and stable performance and the cutting parameters are reasonably adjusted, it helps to reduce the phenomenon of cutting edge collapse. This is more obvious when cutting acrylic/plexiglass materials, and therefore many users specify the use of ultra-thin acrylic cutting wheels.

3. When there are special uses: For example, when using cutting wheels for grooving, due to the requirements of product engineering design, only thin saw discs can meet the design requirements.

However, if the precautions for using super thin cutting wheels are not well mastered, the following situations are more likely to occur (called disadvantages).

Super thin cutting wheel disadvantages:
1. Cutting disc twisting: The body of the sawtooth thin cutting disc is thinner. If the cutting material is not fixed or the cutting feed is too fast, it is easy to cause the cutting disc to twist.

2. Sawtooth damage: It is mainly caused by cutting too fast, which can easily cause the sawtooth to be crooked or the cutting edge to collapse.

In summary, super thin cutting wheels are cutting discs with a certain degree of "delicateness", that is, the benefits are obvious, but they need to be used more carefully. If you can make the best use of your strengths and avoid your weaknesses, you can bring more benefits to users!
