How Many Times Can Brown Aluminum Oxide Be Reused?

Sep 26, 2025

Brown fused alumina, also commonly known as corundum grit, has a wide range of applications. It is primarily used for cleaning, rust removal, corrosion protection, scale removal, surface finishing, and creating decorative patterns on various materials. It is suitable for use on all common types of steel and cast iron, and does not explode, disintegrate, or crack during use, making it applicable across many industries.

So, how many times can brown fused alumina be reused as an abrasive material?

The number of times brown fused alumina can be reused depends on the material being sandblasted, the particle size, hardness, and grade. For example, 24-mesh and 36-mesh Grade 1 brown fused alumina can be reused 8 or more times, Grade 2 6 or more times, and Grade 3 4 or more times.

Besides the number of reuse cycles, different grades of brown fused alumina also affect the amount of dust generated during sandblasting. With increasing environmental awareness, using higher-quality brown fused alumina helps prevent widespread dust during sandblasting, while its higher reusability also saves costs for businesses.

Brown fused alumina can be classified by size into granules and micro-powder; by shape into angular and spherical particles; and by alumina content into three grades. It can be used for cleaning, rust removal, corrosion prevention, oxide scale removal, surface finishing, and creating decorative patterns on various materials, making metal surfaces more attractive or preparing them for further processing.
