Centerless Grinding Wheel Installation, Have You Done These Points?

After a period of use, the grinding wheel of the centerless grinder needs to be replaced with a new one because the grinding wheel is worn to the point where it cannot be repaired. Otherwise, the processing quality of the workpiece will be affected. The centerless grinding wheel is fixed by a grinding wheel chuck, which is clamped in the middle by a cone sleeve and a chuck cover. A layer of paper pad or oil-resistant rubber with a thickness of more than 1 mm must be placed between the end face of the grinding wheel and the chuck. The pressure is evenly distributed, and the tightening force of the hexagon socket screw cannot be too large, otherwise the grinding wheel is easy to break.

Since the centerless grinding wheel is heavy, the new grinding wheel must be tested and adjusted twice for static or dynamic balancing after installation. If it is unbalanced, the centerless grinding wheel will vibrate when running at high speed, which will affect the processing accuracy. Dynamic balancing requires a dynamic balancing instrument, and static balancing requires a balancing frame and a balancing mandrel.


Dynamic balancing is measured with instruments, which I will not introduce here. Generally, for static balancing, a new machine tool will come with a set. Put the balancing mandrel into the cone sleeve of the chuck of the installed new grinding wheel and fix the nut. Then put them together on the balancing frame, install several balancing blocks in the annular groove of the chuck of the centerless grinding wheel, and adjust the position of the balancing block to make the center of gravity of the grinding wheel coincide with its rotation axis. Then install it on the machine tool, use the centerless grinding wheel dresser to round the grinding wheel, put the grinding wheel back on the balancing frame, and balance it again according to the above method. Finally, put it back on the machine tool, and it is considered completed. Pay attention to cutting and grinding, and make sure that the outer end face of the centerless grinding wheel is flush with the outer end face of the guide wheel. If not, you need to make shim adjustments to make the end faces flush.
