Compared With Bonded Abrasives, Coated Abrasives Have More Significant Processing Characteristics

Dec 08, 2025

Compared with bonded abrasives, coated abrasives have the following processing characteristics:

1. Flexible performance:

Flexibility is the most prominent feature of coated abrasives. They can be folded, bent, rolled, and cut into various shapes to meet different processing needs.

2. Sharp micro-cutting edges:

Electrostatic abrasive grains are implanted into the adhesive layer perpendicular to the substrate surface. The tips of the abrasive grains face outward and are evenly distributed, forming sharp micro-cutting edges. Therefore, the grinding efficiency is high and the surface texture of the ground surface is uniform.

3. Strong abrasive grain holding force:

Under the continuous electric field force in the electrostatic field, the abrasive grains have relatively large kinetic energy and are deeply embedded in the adhesive layer. After the adhesive layer cures and dries, the abrasive grains gain sufficient holding force and are not easily detached during grinding. Coated abrasives do not have a "self-sharpening" problem during grinding; a new belt can be replaced after dulling.

4. Convenient and safe to use:

The coated abrasive is lightweight, easy to carry and replace, does not require balancing after application, and does not require maintenance during use.

5. Simple equipment:

The equipment used for coated abrasives is simple, easy to manufacture, low in cost, and easy to automate. The sanding belt is lightweight and vibrating, and because it is flexible, it is not sensitive to vibration, so the rigidity requirements of the equipment are low.

6. Stable cutting speed of abrasive belts:

Abrasive belts experience minimal wear during use and can maintain a stable grinding speed over extended periods, a key advantage. In bonded abrasive machining, most metals are sensitive to changes in wheel speed, especially when machining small curved surfaces and performing high-precision machining. The stable grinding speed of abrasive belts is suitable for high-precision grinding processes.
