Selection Skills Of Cylindrical Grinding Wheel

Jul 11, 2022

The principle of reasonable selection of grinding wheel:

The choice of grinding wheel not only affects the machining accuracy and surface quality of the workpiece, but also affects the wear, service life, production efficiency and production cost of the grinding wheel. To achieve a reasonable selection of grinding wheels, the following basic principles should be observed:

1.The abrasive grains should have good grinding performance.

2.The grinding wheel should have suitable "self-sharpening" when grinding.

3.The grinding wheel should not be dull and have a long service life.

4.Less grinding force is generated when grinding.

5.Less grinding heat is generated during grinding.

6.High machining accuracy (dimensional accuracy, shape accuracy, positional accuracy) can be achieved.

7.Smaller surface roughness values can be achieved.

8.The surface of the workpiece does not produce burns and cracks.

Selection of main characteristics of cylindrical grinding wheel:

The cylindrical grinding wheel is generally a flat grinding wheel with a medium structure, and the size of the grinding wheel is selected according to the machine tool specification. The selection of the main characteristics of the external grinding wheel includes the selection of abrasive grain, hardness and particle size.

1.Selection of abrasive: The selection of abrasive mainly corresponds to the material and heat treatment method of the workpiece to be processed. Among the various artificial abrasives, brown corundum and white corundum are the most commonly used.

2.Selection of hardness: In addition to following the general principles of hardness selection, the impact on the "self-sharpening" of the grinding wheel and the contour of the micro-edge should also be considered.

3.Selection of particle size: The thickness of the abrasive grains of the grinding wheel directly affects the surface roughness of the workpiece and the grinding performance of the grinding wheel. A finer particle size should be selected for fine grinding; the opposite is true for coarse grinding. When grinding workpieces that are easily deformed, the particle size should also be coarser.
