How To Judge The Quality Of Brown Fused Alumina?

Aug 12, 2025

Brown aluminum oxide, white aluminum oxide, and black corundum are some of the most common artificial corundums, often used in abrasives and refractory materials. However, brown aluminum oxide is the most commonly used and moderately priced product. How can customers distinguish between good and bad products when purchasing?

Three aspects of brown aluminum oxide quality distinction

1. Color:

The most intuitive factor for customers when purchasing is color. High-quality brown aluminum oxide is typically tan, transparent, and shiny. This indicates a high aluminum oxide content, resulting in greater hardness, toughness, and self-sharpening properties. Medium-quality brown aluminum oxide is typically dark brown, appearing somewhat dull and less translucent. Furthermore, due to a lower aluminum oxide content and a slightly higher iron content, the color can be darker and appear dull.

2. Particle Size:

The smaller the particle size of brown aluminum oxide, the lower the alumina content. This is because impurities or ash are produced during the screening process. However, this is not the main factor in determining the quality of brown aluminum oxide. The particle size required by the customer should be selected.

3. Content:

Content refers to the content of aluminum oxide, iron oxide, titanium oxide and silicon oxide in brown aluminum oxide. This requires testing to get the result. The higher the aluminum oxide content and the lower the iron content, the better the quality.
