Flap discs are common grinding and polishing tools in life, mainly used for rust removal, burr removal and weld grinding on the surface of workpieces. Today, I will teach you a few tips on using flap discs to improve grinding efficiency and extend the service life of flap discs:
1. Choose a flap disc with the right mesh. If you want to achieve a smooth surface, choose a finer abrasive mesh (80 mesh or 120 mesh). If the rust on the workpiece surface is stubborn or you want to achieve polishing efficiency, you need to use a coarser abrasive (40 mesh or 60 mesh).
2. Choose a suitable angle when polishing. The flap disc is suitable for working at a fixed angle, so that the contact with the grinding surface is less, and the flap wheel wears slowly. When polishing on a flat surface, the contact with the grinding surface is more, and the flap wheel wears quickly. When using the flap wheel, choose an angle of about 5-10 degrees to ensure the best contact with the workpiece and prevent excessive wear.
3. When polishing, the operator's strength should also be controlled. Avoid applying too much or too little pressure. Excessive pressure will cause the flap disc to overload, and excessive heat will cause the flap wheel to wear faster, while reducing the effectiveness of the abrasive. However, if the pressure applied to the flap wheel is insufficient, the effective grinding effect cannot be achieved, and the grinding time and efficiency will be extended.
Mastering the above 3 skills can help you fully tap the potential of the flap discs and achieve better polishing effects.
