Jul 01, 2020

There are many carpentry enthusiasts who like to make some little things. In idle moments, for example, they can make a wood ring as gifts to friends or as a keepsake to themselves. But wooden rings are inherently fragile. Especially when you are just beginning to learn how to make rings, and you don’t have much experience in choosing the materials and making them, so the wood rings often break in a matter of days. Well, this article is here to teach you how to make and polish a wood ring.

Main materials: grinder (or sandpaper), hand drill, sandpaper, beeswax, etc.

Manufacture procedure:

1, we need to draw a ringing blueprint on the wood according to your own need.

2, Use a hand drill (or wire saw) to make the inner circle of the ring, and then use hand saw to make the outer circle

3, Be polished with a grinder (or sandpaper).

4, Finally, oiling it and polishing.

Following are the specific steps.

Step 1, material-preparing

By chance, someone found a dark wood root near the river, it was supposed to be a tree perennially buried in mud. Under the action of microorganisms and oxygen deprivation, so the surface turned to black. Then, washing the mud off the surface and being dried in the sun for more than a month, After sawing, it was found that although it was dark outside, the wood inside was not damaged at all. The wood color was dark red, and the wood was hard. Use the saw to cut open; he was ready to create a wood ring in the middle.

Step 2, drilling.

Put the ring on the center of the wood, drawing the inner and outer circle of the ring with a pencil, according to the size of the original ring, and then using a hand drill to drill the inner circle of the ring. After the inner circle is complete, we can use the wire saw to saw the outer circle. The space for polishing should be reserved here, so the inner circle should be a little smaller than the design, and the outer circle should be a little larger.

Step 3, polishing.

First, polish the circle. Open the lowest gear of the grinder. Hold the rough ring in your left hand and hold the grinder in your right hand to polish the inner circle according to the inner line you drew. If you do not have a grinder, Rough sandpaper can be wrapped around a round wooden stick for hand grinding. After polishing the inner circle, fix the ring on the polishing machine and polish the outer circle according to the line designed.

Step 4: Oiling.

After polishing, you can oil it with beeswax or olive oil and smear evenly on the ring. After the oil is partially absorbed, then start polishing with cotton cloth.
