Hollow glass beads are a hollow, lightweight and high-strength multifunctional filler that is widely used in a variety of functional coatings. Adding hollow glass beads to coatings can meet more specific performance requirements, allowing the coatings to be used in various heavy-duty anti-corrosion and special sound insulation and heat insulation fields.
The role of hollow glass beads in coatings:
Good color: hollow glass beads are pure white, and they have certain matting, whitening and covering effects when used in coatings.
Reduce density: hollow glass beads have a lower density, which can reduce the weight of the coating in the coating, thereby reducing the load and reducing material costs.
Good thermal insulation: The interior of the hollow glass beads is inert gas, and the two different materials have differences in density and thermal conductivity, which makes them have the characteristics of heat insulation, sound insulation and low thermal conductivity. Hollow glass microspheres have a lower air heat transfer coefficient and form a dense thermal barrier layer in the coating, which can effectively delay the transfer of heat to the building body. It is a commonly used thermal barrier filler in coatings and can be used to fill various thermal insulation coatings. The thermal insulation properties of hollow glass microspheres can also be used to protect the coating from thermal shock caused by alternating between rapid heating and rapid cooling conditions.
Good fluidity and good dimensional stability: hollow glass beads are tiny spheres that are easy to disperse and have good flow and leveling properties in coatings. Moreover, spherical objects are isotropic, which can avoid shrinkage and warping of the coating.
Improving the performance of the paint film The spherical structure of the hollow glass beads can well disperse the impact force and stress, so that the coating has a certain resistance to external impact, and at the same time can reduce the stress cracking caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the coating.
Higher resin substitution rate, lower cost hollow glass beads have high specific surface area and low oil absorption rate, and have good dispersibility and filling properties in coatings. Low oil absorption rate can greatly increase the amount of filler, reduce the amount of resin, and achieve efficient filling without increasing or even reducing the unit volume cost of the coating.
