01 Core Performance Advantages of Tabular Alumina
As a key raw material for refractory products, tabular alumina has become an important choice for demanding high-temperature applications. Its unique physical and chemical properties provide reliable performance in harsh operating conditions. Its main advantages can be summarized in two areas, helping improve the safety, durability, and efficiency of industrial equipment.
02 Excellent High-Temperature Resistance and Structural Stability
Tabular alumina has a melting point of approximately 2050°C and a highly developed crystal structure, making it well suited for refractory linings in high-temperature furnaces and kilns. Even under extreme heat, it can resist thermal attack and help prevent softening, deformation, and collapse of the lining.
Its well-developed crystal structure also contributes to low porosity, with a large proportion of closed pores. This gives the material excellent volume stability and very low permanent linear change after firing. As a result, refractory products made with tabular alumina can maintain their structural integrity during prolonged high-temperature operation, reducing the risk of cracking and spalling caused by thermal stress. This can extend furnace service life while reducing maintenance requirements.
03 Improving the Overall Performance of Refractory Materials
Adding tabular alumina to refractory formulations can significantly improve thermal shock resistance, wear resistance, and chemical stability, making the finished material suitable for demanding industrial environments.
In terms of thermal shock resistance, it helps absorb and relieve stresses caused by sudden temperature changes, reducing the risk of damage during frequent furnace start-ups, shutdowns, and temperature fluctuations.
Its high hardness also provides excellent wear resistance against high-speed material flow, mechanical impact, and particle abrasion. In continuous steel casting, for example, tabular alumina is used in refractory components such as slide gates, submerged entry nozzles, and other critical parts exposed to molten metal. It helps these components withstand erosion and mechanical stress, reducing wear and supporting stable production.
Chemical stability is another important advantage. Tabular alumina offers strong resistance to acids, alkalis, salts, and other corrosive substances. This makes refractory products based on it suitable for demanding industries such as petrochemicals and ceramic firing, where they can maintain their integrity over extended periods and help keep equipment operating reliably.
