How To Cause Coated Abrasive Abrasive Failure?

Apr 11, 2024

The forms and causes of abrasive failure in coated abrasives mainly include the following three categories:

1. Blunt abrasive: Blunt grinding is caused by the inability of the abrasive to break properly. Slippage caused by abnormal blunting will cause the abrasive to stop grinding and generate a large amount of friction heat. Operation without grinding and excessive pressure consumption are mainly caused by the following reasons:
♦ The abrasive is too hard or the particle size is too fine
♦ Grinding pressure is too light
♦ Too high a bend
♦ The contact wheel is inappropriate
Abrasive belt speed too fast

2. Abrasive clogging: Clogging occurs between abrasive gaps, when the grinding material is not removed in time, it will cause abrasive clogging. This phenomenon is usually caused by workpiece materials with lower hardness and larger fragments, such as aluminum, rubber, and soft materials. Possible factors include:
♦ Excessive pressure
♦ The contact wheel is inappropriate
Abrasive belt speed too fast
♦ Insufficient coolant
♦ Not enough vacuuming

3. Abrasive shedding: Abrasive shedding is when the abrasive falls off from the backing without complete loss. It is easy to occur when the pressure is too high and the load resistance capacity is poor. Possible factors:
♦ Abrasive too soft
♦ Too high material toughness
♦ Material cutting depth too high
♦ The contact wheel is inappropriate
♦ Only part of the abrasive belt participates in grinding
