Applications Of Stabilized Zirconia

Feb 13, 2023

Because zirconia has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, wear resistance, large thermal expansion coefficient, small specific heat and thermal conductivity, and stabilized toughening properties, stabilized zirconia is a special product in the refractory industry. An important material that cannot be ignored in the field of ceramics.

1. Foam ceramics made of stabilized zirconia can be used for filtration of high-temperature alloys. Foam ceramics are used in the filtration of molten steel continuous casting and have achieved good purification effects, effectively removing non-metallic inclusions.

2. Stabilized zirconia can be used as sprue for special refractory materials, as a crucible for smelting platinum, palladium, rhodium and other precious metals, as a lining for steel ladles and ladles, and as sprue bricks in continuous steel casting (Sizing nozzle, submerged nozzle, long nozzle slag line material and slide plate inner zirconium ring) to meet the requirements of the development of iron and steel smelting technology.

3. Due to the high hardness of stabilized zirconia, it can be made into cold forming tools, shaping dies, wire drawing dies, cutting tools, grinding media, fish knives, scissors, golf club heads, etc.

4. Stabilized zirconia has high strength and good toughness, so it can be used to manufacture engine components, such as push rods, connecting rods, bearing cylinder liners, piston caps, etc.

5. Stabilized zirconia is strong, semiconducting and sensitive, and can be used as a solid electrolyte diaphragm for high-temperature fuel cells, a detection head for measuring oxygen in molten steel, and a sensor for oxygen concentration in gas.

6. Due to the inertness of stabilized zirconia, good corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance, it can be used to make high-performance setter kiln furniture in the firing process of electronic ceramics, that is, electronic setter plates.

7. Because stabilized zirconia has good chemical stability, high hardness and toughness, it can also be widely used as bioceramics in human body components such as artificial teeth and bones.
