Brown aluminum oxide has been widely used in various industries as both an abrasive and a filter material. As an abrasive, it is known as the "teeth of industry" because of its good self-sharpening properties and strong grinding power. It can be used for sandblasting, polishing, grinding, flooring materials, and more.
Industries using brown fused alumina abrasive
1. Due to its high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and high strength, it is used for steel casting sliding nozzles, linings (walls and pipes) of blast furnaces for smelting rare and precious metals, special alloys, ceramics, and ironmaking; physical and chemical vessels, spark plugs, and heat-resistant and oxidation-resistant coatings.
2. Due to its high hardness, good wear resistance, and high strength, it is used in chemical systems for various reactor vessels and pipelines, chemical pump components; mechanical parts, various molds such as wire drawing dies and pencil lead extrusion dies; cutting tools, mold abrasives, bulletproof materials, human joints, sealing mold rings, etc.
3. Corundum insulation materials, such as lightweight corundum bricks, hollow corundum spheres, and fiber products, are widely used in the furnace walls and roofs of various high-temperature furnaces and kilns, providing both high-temperature resistance and insulation.
4. In addition, brown aluminum oxide can also be used in water treatment and purification systems. This is a new application field for abrasives. It uses granular abrasive as the bottom medium of the filter bed to purify drinking water or wastewater. It is a new type of water filtration material at home and abroad, and is especially suitable for non-ferrous metal ore beneficiation and oil drilling mud weighting agent.
5. Brown fused alumina can also be used as a functional filler, such as in automotive brake components, special tires, and special building products. It can be used as a wear-resistant material for constructing highway pavements, airport runways, docks, parking lots, industrial floors, and sports fields.
6. It has polishing and grinding functions, and is mainly used for hull polishing and rust removal, fine polishing of optical glass and lenses, stone carving and sandblasting, etc.
Methods to improve the quality of brown aluminum oxide abrasive
1. Strengthen storage management. In many cases, brown fused alumina can become waste due to improper storage. As an abrasive material, it has many small gaps during the calcination process. If it encounters the rainy season, moisture will seep into these gaps. At this time, the brown aluminum oxide abrasive will have various moisture, hydrolysis, rust, etc., which will seriously affect its quality.
2. Modifying the shape of brown fused alumina particles through heat treatment or chemical coating. Simply improving particle shape to enhance abrasive performance is insufficient for grinding tool requirements, and chemical treatment is costly and environmentally polluting. Therefore, heat treatment of brown aluminum oxide abrasives has become a widely adopted method for improving abrasive quality.
3. Do not store with other items. Brown fused alumina has abundant capillaries. If stored with other items, impurities will enter the capillaries, reducing the purity of the brown aluminum oxide and thus affecting its quality.
