Cutting principle of metallographic cutting sheet

Jul 23, 2022

Metallographic cutting discs, also known as metallographic cutting wheels, are mainly used for sample cutting during metallographic sample preparation. The metallographic cutting piece is derived from the wet grinding wheel cutting piece in ordinary grinding wheel cutting. After improving the cutting accuracy and cutting temperature control, a metallographic cutting piece suitable for metallographic sample preparation is formed. It is also made of alumina resin cutting piece, silicon carbide cutting piece There are mainly three types of resin cutting discs and diamond sintering cutting discs.

Cutting principle and service life:

Large cutting capacity of metallographic cutting blade = radius of cutting wheel - radius of cutting protection flange. If you need to cut relatively hard materials, in order to protect the cutting blade, you need to replace the protection flange with a larger diameter, but the cutting diameter should be reduced.

The service life of metallographic cutting sheets is shorter because the resin content is higher than that of ordinary sheets. If the sheet is not burst to protect the motor from overloading, the reduction in service life is mainly because the diameter of the cutting wheel decreases with use.

Rated maximum speed of cutting blade:

The speed of metallographic cutting is basically a free change from 50rpm to 4000rpm, but the cutting blade is generally marked with a rated high speed, which needs to be determined before use.

The use of cutting blades:

From hard to soft to soft to hard to hard to hard, as follows:

Plastics, rubber – non-ferrous metals, cast iron, stainless steel, tool steel – hardened steel, spring steel, bearing steel – alloy steel, heat treated steel – sintered material, ceramics, silicon wafer, quartz, cement.
