A polishing wheel is a type of pressed flat wheel, composed of several polishing discs pressed together. Each disc's outer surface is evenly coated with a layer of polishing oil. No additional oiling is required during the polishing process. It has a simple structure and is easy to use. The materials used are various types of elastic cotton cloth, fine felt, silk, deerskin, sisal, horsehair, etc.
Polishing wheels can be classified into the following types according to their manufacturing method:
(1) Unstitched cloth wheel
Mostly made of soft cotton cloth, suitable for polishing complex-shaped workpieces or for fine polishing of small workpieces.
(2) Stitched type
Mostly made of coarse cloth, non-woven fabric, and fine plain cloth, etc. The stitching can be concentric spiral, straight radial, or radial patterns, suitable for polishing various coatings and relatively simple shapes.
(3) Air-cooled cloth wheel
Cut at a 45-degree angle, with a ring-shaped pleated pattern and a metal disc in the center, providing ventilation and heat dissipation, suitable for polishing large workpieces.
(4) Felt wheel
Made of pure wool, with a long felting time, dense structure, and small pores, unlike fabrics which are limited by warp and weft, resulting in good wear resistance.
Polishing wheels can be classified into the following types according to their main materials:
(1) Abrasive cloth polishing wheel
Made of abrasive cloth with various grit sizes and abrasives (such as corundum and silicon carbide). It has a high cutting rate and is suitable for grinding, polishing, deburring, and finishing various types of materials.
(2) Cotton cloth polishing wheel
Made of different types of cotton cloth. Using different impregnation methods and different abrasives, it can be used for semi-polishing, polishing, and mirror polishing.
(3) Linen/cotton mixed polishing wheel
Made of linen cloth or lined with cotton cloth, it generally undergoes impregnation treatment. With the help of various abrasives, it can be used for initial polishing and polishing.
(4) Synthetic material-non-woven fabric polishing wheel
Synthetic materials are mostly made of nylon filaments, binders, and abrasives to form non-woven fabric. Using this as raw material, polishing wheels of various shapes are made. Because it contains abrasives itself, it generally does not require abrasives and is mostly used for polishing.
