The difference between abrasives lies in their manufacture. One is composed entirely of natural particles, such as quartz corundum, emery, garnet, and natural diamond. The other is composed of artificial particles, such as artificial corundum, silicon carbide, chromium oxide, cubic boron nitride (CBN) and artificial diamond. Cubic boron nitride (CBN) is the second hardest material besides diamond.It can only be used as an abrasive if it is in the shape of a cubic crystal (CBN).It is synthesized from natural hexagonal boron nitride crystals and is usually used together with resins or ceramics.It is resistant to high temperatures up to 1,300 °C, and when the temperature exceeds 730 °C, it becomes harder than diamond.It is mainly used for grinding hard unhardened steel, such as high speed steel and hot - cold die steel.Not suitable for mild steel, hard alloy, nonferrous metal, chromium and nickel coating and nonmetal, etc.

 

Almost all diamonds used in modern industry are synthetic diamonds.In some special applications, its hardness and geometry properties are better than natural diamond.Although diamond is the hardest material, its temperature resistance is limited to 800 °C.Diamond powder is one of the important material of grinding paste. Diamond material is mainly used for fine grinding of the following materials: carbide, grey cast iron, glass, pottery and porcelain, porcelain, stone of fire prevention, germanium, graphite, cutting ceramics, silicon, rubber, non-ferrous metals, cementite alloy, nickel and chromium alloy, bearing steel and high carbon tool steel of low vanadium.
