How To Use Waterproof Sandpaper And The Correct Method For Grinding?

May 22, 2025

Many objects in life require fine polishing before they can be shaped. For example, waterproof sandpaper is often used when polishing leather, wood, and metal.

How to use waterproof sandpaper?

1. Use the grinder directly in water

When grinding relatively small items, you can directly put the items in the water and water them while grinding. This way, the items will be cleaned every time you grind, and the work efficiency will be faster.

2. Use water slowly

When the grinding items are relatively large, especially when it is inconvenient to put them in water like furniture, first use sandpaper with larger sandpaper particles to grind them roughly, and then use waterproof abrasive paper dipped in water for fine grinding. When the water is gone, slowly add water.

Precautions for using waterproof sandpaper

1. Waterproof sandpaper needs to be polished with water, not dry grinding. Direct dry grinding will cause the debris of the polished object to adhere to the gaps between the sandpaper grains, resulting in the weakening of the friction and grinding force of the sandpaper, which will not only affect the polishing effect, but also make the waterproof abrasive paper more easily damaged and less durable.

2. Waterproof abrasive paper has different models. When grinding, you should first use a smaller coarse sandpaper, and then slowly increase the size of the sandpaper for polishing and grinding again and again.

3. Be patient when grinding, because the same place needs to be polished dozens of times, and the sandpaper model needs to be changed after each grinding. Before changing, be sure to brush the place just polished with clean water.

Correct method for polishing with waterproof sandpaper

When using waterproof sandpaper for sanding, in addition to paying attention to the correct use method, you should also pay attention to the sanding technique:

1. Wear gloves, hold the sandpaper with your hands, and keep it close to the surface of the object to be sanded. When sanding, sand in one direction. If you are sanding wooden products, you also need to sand in the direction of the wood grain.

2. When sanding with waterproof abrasive paper, pay attention to not staying in one place for too long to avoid excessive sanding. If the sanding effect is not good, you can consider changing to another type of sandpaper.

3. When using waterproof abrasive paper for sanding, focus on the first few times of sanding. The base should be smoothed so that the subsequent fine sanding can play a better role. Therefore, the first few times of sanding should pay special attention to the correct technique.
