Grinding rule of super thin grinding wheel

Sep 11, 2022

The super thin cutting wheel is mainly used for precise groove and cutting, and generally adopts the deep-cut slow-feed grinding method. It has the characteristics of large grinding depth, small feed rate, large contact area between grinding wheel and workpiece, narrow kerf, high metal removal rate, high grinding precision, good surface quality and high material utilization rate. The general rules are as follows:

   1. The integral cutting wheel has thin thickness (mostly below 0.5mm), small outer diameter (20-100mm), fine particle size, high precision in size and shape and light weight, and is generally used under high speed conditions. The typical speed is 5000-40000 rpm.

   2. Matrix-type cutting wheels are mostly thick (0.5-2mm), large in diameter (100-200mm), coarse in particle size and low in precision, and are generally used under conditions of low speed and large depth of cut. The general speed is 3000-10000 rpm.

   3. Super thin cutting grinding wheels mostly use fine-grained, and generally the thinner the thickness, the finer the abrasive grain size will be, and the surface quality will be good. However, the finer the abrasive particle size, the lower the cutting sharpness, and the feed speed should be reduced accordingly to adapt to the machinability of the abrasive particle size.

   4. The cutting depth of the super thin cutting wheel is generally determined by the user according to the cutting parts. Most of the cutting adopts the slow-feed grinding process, and the depth is cut at one time. In this way, due to the thin cutting wheel and poor cutting conditions (mostly 3 surfaces contact the workpiece), it is difficult to dissipate heat, so it is necessary to increase the cooling of the cutting area (flow rate, pressure).

   5. When the cutting wheel cannot be cut or the workpiece is chipped just after being used by the user, it is recommended to increase the cutting speed or reduce the feed; Whetstone sharpens the surface of the grinding wheel to adjust its sharpness.

   6. The surface quality and cutting performance of the workpiece are mainly related to the abrasive particle size of the super thin cutting wheel. The finer the particle size, the better the surface finish. At the same time, it is also related to the workpiece material, hardness, cutting amount, machine tool conditions, processing requirements and other factors.

   7. Super thin cutting grinding wheels are generally shaped and edged before leaving the factory, and users can use them directly. If the user needs to further reshape, it is recommended to use green silicon carbide or white corundum whetstone, and the particle size is 1-2 grains coarser than that of the cutting wheel; if the user needs to further sharpen or use a period of later sharpening, it is recommended to use green silicon carbide or white corundum. Whetstone, the particle size is 1-2 finer than that of the cutting wheel or the same size.

   8. The cutting amount is generally related to the material to be processed, hardness, precision, processing requirements, etc. It is recommended that the first use should be used under the original conditions of the user, and the cutting amount should not be easily changed.

   9. The user's operating conditions are also the main factors that affect the cutting performance, especially the axial runout of the machine tool's main shaft, radial runout, flange parallelism, dynamic balance accuracy, etc., all directly affect the cutting accuracy of the cutting wheel.
