Application of Green Silicon Carbide in Refractory Materials

Green silicon carbide has the following characteristics when used in refractory materials:


1. The operating temperature under reducing atmosphere can generally reach 1760℃;


2. It has good thermal shock resistance and can withstand rapid temperature changes to prevent cracks or breaks in the furnace lining;


3. It can be used as a structural material due to its high hot strength;


4. It has good wear resistance. At a certain temperature, green silicon carbide can be used as a wear-resistant lining;


5. Green silicon carbide can withstand the erosion and penetration of certain slag or hot metal, including alkali metal melt;


6. It can withstand the effects of some furnace gases.

 

 

Application of green silicon carbide in refractory materials


1. Nonferrous metal smelting
Due to its high thermal stability and thermal conductivity, it will not be wetted by nonferrous metals, has good corrosion resistance and high thermal conductivity, so it is mainly used as lining materials for high-temperature equipment in nonferrous metal smelting, such as aluminum electrolytic cell side wall bricks, tower walls, etc.


2. Iron and steel industry
Because green silicon carbide is resistant to corrosion by slag, molten iron and alkaline metals, it is used as an antioxidant, has good wear resistance and erosion resistance at high temperatures, and can improve the life of containers, it is mainly used as cooling wall inlay bricks, belly bricks, ladles and torpedo tank linings for iron-making blast furnaces, iron trench lining materials, and replaces ferrosilicon as a deoxidizer, etc.
