Specific Applications of Different Blasting Media Garnet Grit Sizes

Oct 08, 2026

Blasting Media Garnet is a commonly used abrasive material available in a wide range of grit sizes. Different particle sizes provide different cutting and finishing characteristics, making them suitable for specific applications. So, what are the typical uses of different blasting media garnet grit sizes?

6–12 Mesh Blasting Media Garnet

Coarse blasting media garnet has relatively large particles and is suitable for heavy-duty grinding and cutting applications. In the construction industry, it is commonly used for cutting and grinding concrete, stone, and other hard materials.

In metalworking, coarse garnet abrasive can be used for aggressive grinding and removing oxidation, rust, and other surface contaminants from metal. It is also used in road construction and water conservancy projects to produce wear-resistant and slip-resistant surface materials.

20–40 Mesh Blasting Media Garnet

Medium-grit blasting media garnet has a particle size of approximately 0.4–0.85 mm. Its moderate grain size makes it suitable for general grinding, surface preparation, and polishing where a balance between cutting performance and surface finish is required.

During the processing of glass and ceramics, medium-grit garnet can be used as an effective abrasive material. In jewelry manufacturing, it can be used for fine grinding and polishing of metal and gemstone surfaces. In the coatings and paint industries, it can also serve as a functional filler or abrasive component in selected formulations.

80–120 Mesh Blasting Media Garnet

Fine-grit blasting media garnet has a particle size of approximately 0.125–0.20 mm. Its finer particles are better suited to precision grinding, finishing, and polishing applications where a smoother and more controlled surface is required.

In the production of optical glass, precision instruments, and other high-end components, fine garnet abrasive can be used for precision surface finishing. It also has applications in electronics manufacturing, where controlled abrasive action is required for certain precision components and circuit-board processing. In the medical industry, fine abrasive materials can be used in the production and finishing of precision components such as medical instruments and artificial joint parts.
