Abrasive grain size of the grinding wheel

Apr 13, 2019

Mainly related to the processing surface roughness and productivity. When rough grinding, the grinding allowance is large, and the required surface roughness value is large, and coarser abrasive grains should be selected. Because the abrasive grains are coarse and the pores are large, the grinding depth can be large, and the grinding wheel is not easy to block and generate heat. When fine grinding, the margin is small, the roughness value is required to be low, and finer abrasive grains can be selected. In general, the finer the abrasive grains, the better the surface roughness of the grinding.

The organization of the grinding wheel refers to the proportional relationship between the three parts of the abrasive grains, binders and pores of the grinding wheel. It is usually graded as a percentage of the volume of the grinding wheel occupied by the abrasive particles. The grinding wheel has three organizational states: compact, medium, and loose; subdivided into 0-14, a total of 15 levels. The smaller the tissue number, the larger the proportion of abrasive grains and the tighter the grinding wheel; conversely, the larger the tissue number, the smaller the proportion of abrasive grains, and the looser the grinding wheel.
